Can a misfit and a tarnished lady find the happiness that eludes them?

Sergeant Gabriel Hunt can move small, inanimate objects with his mind. A handy talent, but one fraught with dangerous consequences if used recklessly. He employs his gift only when necessary and covertly where possible. He has been sent east to retrieve his commander's daughter and escort her back to Fort Dent. A simple assignment, until train robbers and a willful, golden-haired lady threaten to expose his secrets.

Margaret Ellen Myer has been summoned to her father's garrison in the Indian Territories. A misconstrued incident with a stable boy yielded a broken engagement and disgrace. Her only source of comfort is a black stallion she raised from birth. When the horse is stolen, her journey with Sergeant Hunt to recover the stallion challenges her perceptions about life and love.

excerpt

A tabby sauntered across the floor and vaulted onto the window ledge. It peered out the window as if searching for prey. A few feet away, Sergeant Hunt stood at the ticket counter, talking with the station clerk. He resembled the cat. Intent and focused. And quite handsome. Was he married? If not, then a bevy of unattached ladies at Fort Dent would surely vie for his attention. He would be a striking feather in some girl’s cap. Not that she was looking for a feather. After all that had happened, her cap would remain unadorned for quite a while.

The sergeant nodded, took a slip of paper, and wheeled around. His benign expression revealed nothing of his negotiations. Had he been successful in securing passage for Orion? He certainly commanded respect with those golden eyes and deep, drilling voice. His demeanor exuded confidence and conviction. He was the type of man her father would expect her to marry. A military man just like him. She wouldn’t give him that satisfaction.
